The Legal Paths To Terminating Parental Rights

The process follows one of two paths. A parent usually surrenders these rights voluntarily in writing to allow an adoption and has four days to revoke that decision. Involuntary termination begins when the state or another authorized petitioner asks the juvenile court to act without the parent’s consent.
